An exciting Week 4 at Tsukuba produced Nick Drucks winning Race 1 and Greg Calabria taking Race 2. Across both contests, qualifying pace and track position proved decisive, while incidents among the front-runners repeatedly reshaped the order and kept the pressure on through the closing laps.
Race 1
Josh King started from pole position after setting the pace in qualifying, with Joey Essinger alongside on the front row. Essinger made the stronger opening move and claimed the lead on the opening lap, with King, Nick Drucks and Kevin Cohen remaining close behind in the early stages.
The lead group remained tightly packed through the first half of the race, with Jeremy Toste holding position just behind the front three. Passing opportunities were limited, but the pressure at the front never eased as the top runners circulated nose-to-tail.
The race turned just after halfway when an incident involving the leaders disrupted the order. Essinger and King both fell out of contention for the win, allowing Toste to inherit the lead briefly before Drucks moved to the front. Cohen also advanced in the shuffle and settled into second place.
From there, Drucks controlled the closing stages despite pressure from Cohen, maintaining enough of an advantage over the final lap to secure the victory. Cohen finished second, while Toste completed the podium in third. Michael Gonçalves was fourth, and Greg Calabria completed the top five.
Race 2
King again claimed pole, this time with Calabria joining him on the front row. Essinger started third, ahead of Jacob Green and Jim Campbell, putting several of the evening’s strongest runners near the front at the outset.
The second race was decided early by a chain of incidents in the opening lap. King made a clean initial launch, but trouble behind and around him quickly changed the complexion of the race. Essinger was eliminated, Campbell’s race was compromised, and several other front-running cars were caught up in the aftermath. Calabria emerged from the opening sequence with the lead, with Green and Gonçalves initially giving chase.
As the race settled, Calabria steadily extended his advantage while the fight for second intensified. Green, Gonçalves and Drucks ran in close company until further contact among the chasing group elevated Drucks into second. Additional attrition later reshaped the order again, promoting Toste into podium position and Steve Hill into contention just behind him.
Calabria remained clear throughout the remainder of the race and took the checkered flag with a margin of roughly five seconds. Drucks finished second to complete a strong overall evening, while Toste held off sustained late pressure from Hill to secure third. James Cox rounded out the top five.
