Chasing the Delta returns to Summit Point Raceway for Week 6 competition, featuring two 20-minute Mazda MX-5 races at the West Virginia circuit. With tightly matched qualifying times and favorable track conditions, both races delivered sustained battles at the front and decisive moments in traffic

Race 1

Pole position went to Jim Campbell, narrowly edging Carey Nolan Jr in a tightly contested qualifying session. At the start, Campbell led the field cleanly through Turn 1, but an incident further back in the opening lap eliminated several drivers from contention and forced early repairs.

Up front, Nolan Jr moved past Campbell and began leading a tightly packed front group that included Nick Drucks, Greg Calabria, Jacob Green, and others. The draft effect at Summit Point kept the lead group compressed, with frequent position changes and side-by-side racing into Turn 1 and through the esses.

Kevin Cohen briefly remained in the lead pack before a spin dropped him out of contention. The lead battle eventually condensed to a four-car fight between Nolan, Drucks, Calabria, and Campbell, with Jacob Green closing from behind as the race progressed.

A significant moment came when Campbell was turned after contact while rejoining the circuit, triggering additional incidents that reshuffled the top order. This reduced the contest to a five-car lead group featuring Drucks, Calabria, Nolan, Green, and Joseph Essinger.

With under five minutes remaining, the leaders encountered lapped traffic. Drucks benefited from a well-timed draft from a slower car on the final lap, extending his advantage over Calabria entering the closing corners.

Calabria mounted a late challenge but ran slightly wide in the final sector, allowing Drucks to secure the victory.

Race 2

A reshuffled grid, with Jim Campbell again starting from pole. However, Nick Drucks capitalized immediately at the green flag, taking the lead into Turn 1.

The opening laps saw an unusually clean start, with the field remaining tightly grouped in the draft. Drucks, Jacob Green, and Campbell initially broke slightly clear, but the pack remained within striking distance.

Mid-race, contact between Drucks and Joseph Essinger resulted in both drivers spinning, removing the Race 1 winner from contention and handing the lead to Carey Nolan Jr. Green and Jeremy Toste quickly positioned themselves in the top three.

Shortly thereafter, a major multi-car incident in Turn 1 eliminated several contenders, dramatically reducing the lead group and leaving Nolan, Green, Toste, and Luke Severance to contest the win.

Green repeatedly attempted to pass Nolan Jr around the outside at Turn 1, staying alongside through multiple laps but unable to complete the move cleanly.

On the final lap, contact between Nolan and Green exiting Turn 1 sent Nolan around, promoting Green into the lead. Toste applied pressure through the closing corners, but Green delivered a clean final sector and secured the victory at the checkered flag.

Event Summary

Summit Point once again demonstrated its reputation for close-quarters MX-5 racing. Both 20-minute races were characterized by intense drafting battles, limited margin for error in the Esses, and decisive moments in traffic.

With two different winners across the doubleheader, the championship fight remains tightly contested heading into the next round.
